Expert Tips

To ensure recipe success if using a vegetable oil spread, use a spread with at least 65% vegetable oil.

Rise to the occasion! Self-rising flour can be used in this recipe.

If blueberry crisp is your cup of tea, simply use 4 cups fresh or frozen (thawed and drained) blueberries for the apples.

Apple crisp is one of my favorite types of desserts and unfortunately I was disappointed with tis recipe. My opinion is just that the crispier the crisp the better. I feel that the flour in this recipe kept the rest of the ingredients from crisping as much and kind of killed the sweet flavor of the other components. Next time I would probably leave out the flour and use more butter. Despite my personal opinion, other people in the house really enjoyed it the way it was. It just depends on with type of apple crisp you personally enjoy.
